Spring Station Middle School Takes On Game Day Live!

For the first time, teams can compete in the NEW Game Day Live division at the 2020 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship! One super special team is taking on the Non-Varsity Game Day Live competition and we’re excited to see their game day spirit take the floor.

Spring Station Middle School has attended the competition for five years, with 2020 being their sixth! The team took home their white satin jackets in 2018 in the Junior High Game Day division, and this season they are excited to take on the brand new Game Day Live Non-Varsity division!

When the division was announced, Spring Station coach Missy Scott and former Ole Miss cheerleader, new instantly that’s where their team belonged. The school is all about game day, so what better stage than Game Day Live?! The team is also coached by Leslie Brewer and Calvin Hassell.

“Leslie and I were watching the 2019 UCA College Cheerleading National Championship and saw Grand Canyon University’s Game Day performance,” said Scott. “They had their drumline with them, and we immediately called our band director, Ashley Harris, to see if she would want to figure out how we could bring a pep band to Nationals.”

The Spring Station coaches mentioned wanting to compete in a Game Day Live division at nationals when they went to camp over the summer. Once the announcement of the new division was released, the team jumped at the opportunity and the band director was completely on board!

“We have always loved competing in game day, but we never dreamed that incorporating the band would inspire our cheerleaders to perform to the next level,” said Scott. “Giving the band and the cheerleaders this experience in middle school sets them up for a game day experience on the collegiate level.”

It is truly what cheerleading is supposed to be, and our goal as coaches and band directors is to prepare them for a future in high school and college. - Missy Scott

“The live band adds so many layers to an already fun game day experience,” said Scott. “It has been challenging and rewarding to see the two groups come together in a division that has never been done before. Our coaching staff, including Andrea, has pushed our creativity and ideas to a whole new level!”

Not only is the team excited to take on a new challenge, they’re looking to become the start of something special!

“Being the only team in the Non-Varsity Game Day Live division,” said Scott,  “we have set the goal to show the world what is possible!  We are so excited to be the first and only middle school in this division and we hope we make UCA and our school proud!”
